15 reasons to obsess over lemons

15 reasons obsess over lemons

I have an addiction, a lemon addiction. Shortly after going meat free, I started making more and more health changes. Aside from reading ingredients like a detective on a hot trail and cutting out some of my most favorite foods, I changed up the way I drank. This past year I have felt better than I have in years! I truly believe my improved morning routine is a large reason why.

Since high school, I have been a self-proclaimed coffee addict. I could drink coffee from morning to night…. on the daily (you can’t see it, but I am making a face like eeek that’s bad). What’s worse is after the coffee was gone I didn’t exactly jump-up to fill my glass with water. With some life lessons under my belt and a food awakening, I was definitely on the move for change. I still love to start the day with a cup of joe, but once the morning gets rolling I set the mug down and reach for a glass of fresh lemon water.

I cut a lemon in half and remove as many seeds as can be found (those things hide well in a lemon), and squeeze the entire half into a tall glass of water. I store the other half in a small container in the fridge. After the first glass is down, I refill it until the lemon taste is gone. Then, I grab the other half and repeat. If it wasn’t for lemon, I may never get those “eight glasses a day.” Not only am I getting H2O but the lemons are adding an even bigger boost to my system.

15 reasons obsess over lemons

I am hooked on lemons and with benefits like this it’s no wonder why:

  • Rich in vitamin C, giving your immune system a major boost and protecting you from deficiencies
  • Balances maintain PH levels
  • Helps prevent the growth and multiplication of pathogenic bacteria that cause infections and diseases
  • Potassium content helps nourish brain and nerve cells
  • Balance the calcium and oxygen levels in the liver
  • Gives you an energy boost, helping cut out caffeine
  • Helps cure the common cold
  • Prevents the formation of wrinkles and acne- gives glowing skin
  • Lemon juice helps replenish body salts especially after a strenuous workout session
  • Aids in weight loss
  • Can help relieve the problem of indigestion
  • Helps reducing pain and inflammation in joints and knees as it dissolves uric acid
  • Freshens breath
  • Helps to maintain the health of your eyes
  • A medium-sized, whole, fresh lemon contains 2.4 grams of dietary fiber

This is just to name a few…. It is amazing how some of the best things we can do for our bodies are right there for the picking.

With the lemons all squeezed out, I am still putting them to use. If I am not rubbing them on my nails for a whitened and polished look, I am using them to rub soap scum off the bathroom fixtures.

One great thing about having a compost , not much goes to waste around here. Lemons are great for the body, good for cleaning, and my compost  loves them too.

Anyone else riding this lemon train?  How are you kicking caffeine addictions? In reference to the glass, has anyone been to Mt. Washington!?
