Here’s the dirty truth. When it rains, it pours, and right now it’s raining on us. Life’s trials and tribulations have been rolling in on us lately. With our first wreck under our belt and dealing with it being totaled, the struggle being a one car family has been real. Now we are going be a no car family for a minute…
Ryan worked late today, so this night was already tight. We had planned to hit the farmers market to kick off our unprocessed food challenge and also to snap some pictures for a blog post that we were going to roll out tonight. Feeling the pressure of the new website design ahead and the blog post, we jumped in the car to run a couple quick errands.
We got about a mile up the road (halfway to the market), when my car just died. This traffic situation- we kinda started it.
We had folks passing us on both sides. The scariest was the city buses, particularly when they passed on the tight side of the car.
While we awaited a tow-truck, a cop passed and stopped to check in on us, but there was really nothing that could have been done at that time. A few more minutes passed and a truck came up behind us, turned on his flashers, and offered to push us to the gas station ahead. I thought he meant by foot, but this man pushed us bumper to bumper.
I may have started getting a little emotional at that point. I was worried about my car and some taps were loud as he got us going. Plus, it was nerve-racking to steer across to the gas station parking lot in a busy intersection.
In the end, we landed safely, and that man became our hero. While we waited for an hour on the tow-truck, we had a nice conversation over a snack bag of Cheez-It crackers Ryan bought inside the station. It’s been years since I’ve eaten those things, and it’s a far cry from how we thought our unprocessed month was going to kick off. Since we are down to one car (and it just broke down), we decided to have a pizza delivered. Needless to say, we still have an entire month (and longer) of pure unprocessed eating ahead. It just won’t span all 31 days of October. Is no processed November a thing?
The guy that towed us seemed to think our fuel filter had become blocked and to fix it would be no big deal. We’ll see what plays out tomorrow as we work out yet another car situation out. What are the odds that we would both be having such bad luck with our cars at the same time? I think it’s safe to say Ryan will be working from home tomorrow (I secretly/not-so-secretly love it).
The pizza was just delivered and I can hear Ryan getting plates now… we’ll be seeing you guys tomorrow.
